Eight years after the terrorist attacks on the United States, residents of the Town of Queen Creek will honor the victims of Sept. 11, 2001, as well as military and emergency services personnel, in a ceremony to be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Queen Creek Library.

The commemoration ceremony honors the victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and flight takeovers, emergency personnel who died in Sept. 11 rescue attempts and American military service personnel who have died in the war against terrorism.

Duane Ellsworth Post 129 of the American Legion is partnering with the Town of Queen Creek to host the Patriot Day ceremony. It will include a color guard and flag ceremony, singing of the national anthem, memorial prayers, a laying of memorial wreaths, ringing of bells, and remarks by local American Legion representatives, elected officials and others.

The ceremony will not only honor those who have died, but also those who live and continue to fight for the freedom of this nation,” said Russell DeStefano, commander of Duane Ellsworth Post 129.
