October Declared ‘Domestic Violence Awareness Month’ in Queen Creek
Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney recently signed a proclamation declaring the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the community. Queen Creek is joining cities and towns across the valley in Lighting Arizona Purple, an effort to help end domestic violence. Throughout the month of October, the Law Enforcement & Community Chambers Building will be purple to raise awareness of this important issue. The community is encouraged to participate in the awareness effort by wearing purple on Thursday, Oct. 19.
“Domestic violence is a serious problem that is harmful not only to individuals and families, but to our entire community,” said Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney. “According to the Arizona Coalition to End Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, there were 107 domestic violence related fatalities in Arizona. Our goal is to bring awareness to an issue that has an untold number of victims, and share with those impacted by domestic abuse that support is available.”
