Drones or Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are becoming more accessible to citizens for recreational use.  The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has partnered with the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) to develop the Know Before You Fly website.  The purpose is to educate users on how to fly safely and responsibly.

Drone Safety Tips

  • Always fly your drone under 400 feet.
  • Always fly your drone within your direct line of site.
  • Never fly over groups of people.
  • Never fly within 5 miles of an airport without notifying the airport and the control tower.

The FAA Requires Unmanned Aircraft Registration for drones weighing 0.55 pounds to 55 pounds including payloads such as on-board cameras.
