West Park is a 68-acre site designed to provide multiple active-use fields, courts and other active-use amenities, while accommodating passive-use amenities, such as open turf, ponds, ramadas and trails. The park includes four lighted baseball/softball fields, three lighted multi-use fields, basketball courts and an equestrian trailhead. A promenade provides a visual and pedestrian link from the active-use amenities to the recreation center located in the western portion of the site.
A skate park is adjacent to the promenade where it is highly visible and easily accessible from the parking lots. The recreation center is oriented to the southwest to take advantage of views from within the center, looking over the lake and to the skyline view of the San Tan Mountains. The lake feature offers a number of recreational opportunities for park users, such as fishing, canoeing and kayaking and provides an aesthetic backdrop for the recognition feature. The lake flows into a stream that crosses under the western entrance drive and meanders north through the panhandle to a small pond with an accessible fishing pier.
