Mayor Barney Gail Barney
Mayor Barney joined a representative from the Town's tourism partner, Visit Mesa, and Marnie Schubert, the Town's Communications, Marketing & Recreation Director on a sales mission in Germany from June 27 through July 4. During the trip he promoted our region a new destination for tour operators across the country. Prior to this trip, the Mesa/Queen Creek are was not represented in the tourism brochures printed for the German market. The lack of representation was a huge gap in the marketing efforts to one of the top tourist markets for Arizona. During the mission, Mayor Barney and the team received commitments from all ten operators that our region would be featured in the next printings of their catalogs. These companies combined print around one million brochures each season, which provides us with amazing reach into this highly profitable market.
Mayor Barney also took the opportunity to meet with representatives with Fraport following a meeting that was held with the Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. The company provided a tour of Frankfurt airport, which Fraport owns, and details about the services they could provide to our airport. Mayor Barney be discussing the details with his colleagues at the Airport Authority at a future meeting.
